ABOUT BOLOGNA PROCESS

Bologna Process

Launched in 1999 by the Ministers of Education and university leaders of 29 countries, the Bologna Process created the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), which has further developed into a major reform encompassing 49 EU countries and the European Commission. Being a member of EHEA and taking part in the Bologna Process is a voluntary decision made by each country and its higher education community to endorse the principles underlined in the European Higher Education Area.

ABOUT EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY ASSOCIATION

European University Association

The EUA was formed in 2001 as the result of a merger between the Association of European Universities (CRE) and the Confederation of European Union Rectors’ Conferences. Since its creation, EUA represents the collective voice of its member universities and National Rectors’ Conferences across Europe. It represents universities and national rectors’ conferences in 48 European countries, as well as affiliated organisations and networks based both in and beyond Europe.

EUA plays a crucial role in the Bologna Process and in influencing EU policies on higher education, research and innovation. The Association provides unique expertise in higher education and research as well as a forum for exchange of ideas and good practice among universities. Over the years, EUA ensures that the voice of European universities is heard wherever decisions are being taken that will impact their activities.

In 2004, it became the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education with the aim to contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of the quality of European higher education, and to act as a major driving force for the development of quality assurance across all the Bologna Process signatory countries.
