The 37th general assembly of the Cyprus Universities Rectors’ Conference convened by UCLan Cyprus

On Tuesday 17.12.2024, the 37th General Assembly of the Cyprus Universities Rectors’ Conference was convened by UCLan Cyprus, which presided the Conference.

Among the items on the agenda was the approval of the revised CURC Articles of Association, the organisation of the next Doctoral Colloquium of CURC (to be hosted by Frederick University), a discussion on the offering of Microcredentials, an update from the CURC working group for the development of a Cyprus Archive for Doctoral Theses, and the potential collaboration with the Cyprus Human Resource Development Authority. Moreover, Dr Triantafyllides from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki was invited to talk about support that can be provided to refugee scholars at Cyprus universities.

The meeting was joined by the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare and the Permanent Secretary of the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare to discuss the support of the CURC and its members for the Deputy Ministry’s volunteering programme for the elderly.

Furthermore, the meeting was joined by the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation & Digital Policy and the Chief Scientist of Cyprus. The CURC members had the opportunity to discuss how all Cyprus research and innovation stakeholders can collaborate together to support and enhance the Cyprus research and innovation ecosystem, as well as different challenges that the Universities face regarding their research and innovation environments and how the Deputy Minister and the Chief Scientist can assist in addressing such challenges.

The session of the 37th General Assembly was concluded with the announcement of the new CURC Board for the next year, which was formed by Prof. Philippos Pouyioutas, Rector of the University of Nicosia as President, Prof. Tasos Christofides, Rector of the University of Cyprus as Vice-President and Prof. Andreas Efstathiou, Rector of the European University Cyprus as Secretary.
